The Art of Sewing
Sewing seems to be a lost art. I come from a long line of seamstresses; my grandmother and mother were dressmakers extraordinaire'. As a young girl, I quickly learned that the only way I would have a revolving wardrobe was to learn how to sew for myself. One of my sisters perfected the art and I followed closely behind. The result was years of combing through fabric stores and creating just about every outfit that I wore until I just didn't have the time to create my own wardrobe.
Lately I have been feeling the urge to create, so we are reviving the art of Sewing at The Style Closet. Beginner sewing classes will be held on Saturdays...stay tuned for dates
We will dive right in, reviewing how to thread a machine, wind a bobbin and use the stitch selector. Then we cover the basics: corners, curves, zippers, linings, buttonholes, simple pockets, bindings and finishing, all while making three projects; a shoe bag, a skirt and a top to match. four seats available for each class.
Cost: $250 for four 2.hour sessions. Cost includes pattern, fabric and notions, simple sewing kit, personal 20 minute makeover style session (a $99 value), and a patient, seasoned instructor.
